First-time author Diane Dignan tackled a tough subject in her novel, The Boys' Club, published by First Page Publications in Livonia.
Set primarily in the fictional consulting firm Barringer and Associates, the book centers around the life and career of a young woman for whom life is going very well, indeed. Promised a promotion, Alex also learns a man she has long admired may finally be ready for a relationship.
As quickly as everything in Alex's life seems to be coming together, it all starts to unravel, thanks in large part to Barringer's "Good Old Boy" network.
Along the way, she learns to trust her instincts, learns to stand up for herself and opens herself to a life she may not have expected to live.
In her first outing, Dignan creates a cast of memorable characters and tells a story that might seem "dated" - to anyone who doesn't realize the "Boys' Club" is alive and well, even in the largest corporations. Fortunately, she hasn't subscribed to the notion that women are all "victimized" by this network. Instead, Dignan gives us a woman who learns how to stand toe to toe and fight to keep what she has earned.
